The role

As a Trainee Rigger, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. This role is important as they work as part of a larger team ensuring that equipment is safe, accurate and fit-for-purpose.


Day to day, you’ll carry out rigging duties at Devonport Royal Dockyard.

  • Surveying, measuring, manufacturing and testing rigging items.
  • Required to fit parafoils and safety nets onboard vessels
  • Install halyards and dressing lines.
  • Operate winches and davits.
  • Use sewing machines and basic sail making.

Essential experience of the Trainee Rigger

  • To have a sound understanding of the use of bottle screws, shackles, thimbles, and blocks
  • To be able to work at height.
  • Training will be provided as and where necessary. Especially with regards the use of fork lift trucks and slinger duties.

This role is based onsite at Devonport for 36 hours per week.



The successful candidate must be able to achieve SC security clearance level for this role.
